About Salt Fest

Droitwich Spa Salt Fest started in 2006 to celebrate the town’s unique salt heritage. Since then the event has grown considerably taking place across the whole town centre and attracting thousands of visitors. Whilst the salt heritage and Romans are still important aspects, the event has now become a showcase for the town, businesses and community. Many local groups take part running stalls and organising activities whilst the music showcase features young and up and coming local performers. Salt Fest is a great day out for all the family.

Town History and Salt Heritage


Salt Alley


Town Centre – Saltbarrow Market

Displays and activities featuring the town’s unique salt heritage and local history. Learn about the buoyancy properties of brine and how it was used to make salt in the Iron Age over 2,000 years ago. Watch a salt carving demonstration and browse the stalls to learn how the town’s history has been shaped by the underground brine deposits. See model cars powered by salt! Visitors can also enjoy two live performances of “A Flavour of a Salt Maker’s Celebration” depicting a late 17th century Michaelmas Feast.

Performances at 11.30am and 2pm.

Roman and Living History Re-enactment


Vines Park

Visitors will have chance to meet the Romans and find out how they lived at the encampment in the park. Learn about the life of the Roman Soldier, find out about the clothes they wore and what they ate and listen to storytelling.

Salt Museum – Heritage and Tourist Information Centre


Town Centre – Victoria Square

Visit the museum to find out about the town’s fascinating salt history. Other exhibits and activities include the history of radio and brass rubbing.

St. Andrews Church


Town Centre – St. Andrews Street

Visit the church in the heart of the town and enjoy some quiet time in the gardens.

St. Augustines Church

Enjoy a visit to the Norman church of St. Augustine and climb Dodderhill Tower for spectacular views over Droitwich Spa. Short walk from Vines Park.

Saturday: Church 10am – 5pm; Tower: 11.15am – 4.15pm

Sunday: Church 10am – 4pm; Tower 11.15am – 12.15pm/ 1.15 – 3.30pm

Victoria Square

Wide selection of stalls and displays featuring advice and information on community safety, health and other community services. Includes Fire Service, West Mercia Crime Stoppers, Fortis Living, Neighbourhood Watch, Medical Centres, Citizen Advice Bureau, Wychavon Youth Bus and Droitwich Food Bank.

St. Andrews Street and High Street

The popular Farmers and Craft Market will be in St. Andrews Street on Saturday offering a wide range of local food and drink – meats, fruit and vegetables, bread and cake, preserves, wine and much more. There is also a Retail Market in the High Street selling a range of goods including hardware, tools, flowers, jewellery and household goods.

Art Exhibition


St. Andrews Church

An exhibition by local art clubs and solo artists. Features display of paintings, photography and poetry on the theme of ‘local heritage’. ‘Paint a masterpiece in 10 minutes’ competition Organised by Droitwich Arts Network.

Treasure Hunt

Take part in a treasure hunt around the event to see if you can find the letters to make a special word. Collect your entry form from the information point in Vines Park.

Duck Race

Buy a ticket from the Droitwich Waterways (Pamela May) Trust stand and come along and cheer on you duck as it makes it way along the River Salwarpe in Vines Park.

The Salvation Army Choir and Band will be hosting a community service in the main marquee.

Model Boats

Watch a display of radio controlled model boats on Droitwich Canal.

WI Centenary Baton

The Women’s Institute Centenary Baton is touring the UK and is coming to Vines Park during Salt Fest!

Live entertainment on offer throughout the weekend, including the Youth Showcase on Saturday (featuring W Factor, The Signatures and Droitwich Air Cadets Band) and other bands and choirs. Vines Park marquee. Saturday and Sunday (see programme for further details).

Children’s Activities


Town Centre and Vines Park

There will be plenty to entertain children throughout the weekend – circus skills, balloon modelling, puppet shows, art workshops, story telling, farm animals, inflatable slide, face painting, ferret racing, owls, animal rescue zone.

Dog Show


Vines Park

Salt Fest 9 Race


Vines Park

Do you fancy getting fit? Then why not take part in the 9ish mile scenic run along the Droitwich Canal surrounding countryside. Entry fee includes momentos, Bangers and Mash at the Gardeners Arms and post race massage.

Organised by Droitwich Athletics Club. All profits will be donated to Murrays Muscles.
